Hiring managers reading a generated cover letter are not offended by the tool. They are missing the one thing they scan for: evidence that you read the posting and did something comparable.
On a first pass a human reads the first line and the paragraph that looks like it contains a specific fact. Everything else is skipped or read after the interview is scheduled. Write for that pass: put the evidence above the politeness.
A useful constraint is 200 words. If you cannot say it in 200, you have not decided what matters yet — and neither will the reader.
Replace each with something a stranger could verify: a number, a role, a period, a name of a system you actually used.
Vague postings are common and they are an opportunity: answer the question they did not ask. If the ad does not say who owns a task, ask. A cover letter that asks one sharp question about their setup often does more than a letter that claims to fit every requirement.
| What people usually write | What it looks like after |
|---|---|
| I am writing to express my strong interest in the position and I am confident that my skills align well with your requirements. | You need someone to own the support inbox for a 12-person team. I did that for two years at a tooling company — 300 tickets a week, one full-time person. |
| I possess excellent communication skills and a proven track record of delivering results in fast-paced environments. | The last time we had a release with no docs, I wrote them in four days. Nobody complained, which is the metric I care about. |
| Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you. | I can start in three weeks. If the team is still deciding who owns onboarding, that is the question I would want answered in a first conversation. |
If you want this done to your own draft: ShipCopy takes a piece of text you already wrote and rewrites it in one of three modes — rewrite it to read human, turn a product description into launch copy, or turn a plain-language request into a reusable prompt. Six output formats, 13 languages. 10 generations free, no card.
See what it does Pricing — US$15/monthStructure yes, sentences no. The structure is boring on purpose so the evidence stands out.
Around 200 words, three paragraphs. Longer than a page is almost never read.
You can, but the letter still has to contain your facts. The tool is not the issue — the missing evidence is.
