ChatGPT does not write badly. It writes in a narrow band: every paragraph the same length, every claim softened, every transition signposted. Readers do not notice the grammar — they notice the flatness. Fixing it is mostly deletion and one habit change.
People who say 'this reads like AI' are almost never reacting to facts. They react to rhythm, hedging, specificity, and temperature. Temperature is the hard one: model text is neutral about its own subject. A human who cares about something leans on it — repeats a word, puts a short sentence right after a long one to land the point, admits what went wrong.
Rewrite for those four and the text stops sounding generated, even if every fact stays identical.
Run a find-and-replace pass over these. Each one is either filler or a class of filler:
That list is not a style opinion. Those words are statistically over-represented in model output and under-represented in human email, chat and documentation. Cutting them buys you most of the way to 'sounds human' on its own.
The single highest-leverage prompt change: instead of 'write me X', paste your own draft and say 'rewrite this so it reads like I wrote it — keep my facts, cut anything that sounds generated, no new claims'. You now have a human spine with cleaned-up language instead of a model spine you have to fight.
If you have nothing to paste, ask for three short versions at different tones rather than one long one, then take the best sentence from each. Selection is faster than editing.

They have a shipping problem — the draft sits for three weeks while nobody decides who it is for. |
| Our tool significantly improves the efficiency of your workflow, enabling teams to save considerable time and effort. | The rewrite takes about eight seconds. The version I would have written by hand takes forty minutes. |
| Moreover, users can additionally benefit from the ability to generate multiple outputs in order to facilitate a broader range of use cases. | One request, six formats. You copy the one you need and close the tab. |
If you want this done to your own draft: ShipCopy takes a piece of text you already wrote and rewrites it in one of three modes — rewrite it to read human, turn a product description into launch copy, or turn a plain-language request into a reusable prompt. Six output formats, 13 languages. 10 generations free, no card.

On a 400-word draft, seconds. The slow part is deciding what you actually want to say, and no tool fixes that.
It helps less than you expect. The model's idea of human is casual punctuation and fake anecdotes. Naming the four things above works better than the adjective.
